My stay at the hotel was a mix of highs and lows. Our room had stunning views over the Canal at Neptune's Steps, but it was small, smelly, and had mold around the bath. However, the bed was really comfortable and well tended by the maids who provided complimentary bottled water and treats. The location was excellent for exploring the West Highlands, right off the main road between Fort William & Mallaig, perfect for our train trip. The dining experience had its ups and downs; while breakfast was one of the best I've had in this budget range, the scrambled eggs were dry, and the sausage was undercooked. Facilities were basic but functional, nothing extraordinary.
